• Dr. Michael Gervais: A True Competitor

    October 5th, 2012 | BY: | IN: A True Competitor

Our next true competitor we are profiling is Dr. Michael Gervais, a licensed psychologist and industry visionary. He is also WinForever’s high performance psychologist and founding partner of Pinnacle Performance Center, Inc. Dr. Gervais focuses most of his time on people at the “top of their game,” from NFL, NBA, and MLB franchises, as well as Olympians, military personnel and high performing individuals.

Spending years in the trenches of high-stakes circumstances, Dr. Gervais has developed clarity for the tools that allow people to ‘thrive under pressure.’ He is a published, peer-reviewed author and an internationally recognized speaker on issues related to high performance for those who excel on the largest stages in the world.

In a recent interview with WinForever, Dr. Gervais talked to us about what it’s like for an individual to put their best foot forward in all situations. “’All in’ is a great phrase. ‘All in’ means that I’ve chipped in; I’ve put all my chips into this—but I’ve done it in a way that doesn’t consume me, it doesn’t define me—but it’s an extension of who I am.”

Dr. Gervais focuses a lot on human potential, and that—as humans—we achieve our maximum potential. “We’re pursuing this path to be excellent. To be one of the best in the world or to be excellent within ourselves, we need to understand clearly–to be able to articulate and put words around what it is that we’re looking to experience and where we’re going.”

Point blank, Dr. Gervais understands you better than yourself. And knows what it takes for you to succeed at the highest level. He’s helping you figure that out. “And the whole framework we have at WinForever is, here’s some tools, go play with this, think about this, talk about this—and get it down on paper,” Dr. Gervais told WinForever. “Really make a commitment to what you’re about, what’s your philosophy.”

While Dr. Gervais is not your ordinary coach who calls plays on the sideline, he’s just as much of a coach as anyone. He’s a coach for the mental side. And he understands the art of it better than anybody.

“We have to understand that motivation lasts moments—that’s all it really lasts,” Gervais said. “Inspiration means to breathe life into somebody. So really understanding who the athlete is, how they learn, where they come from, more importantly, where are they going.”

After spending just a few minutes with Dr. Gervais, it’s clear he’s interested in how people explore human potential, how they use their minds to explore the boundaries of what is possible –no matter what the chosen craft or profession might be.

“It’s kind of why we’re here; let’s go explore.”
